UK Braces for Blustery, Wet Weekend as Ex-Storm Alex Hits
The UK is set for a gusty, wet spell thanks to the remnants of former Tropical Storm Alex. While northern and western areas face strong winds and showers, the south will enjoy some calmer, sunnier moments.
Storm Alex’s Legacy: Winds Up to 55mph in Northwest
Ex-Storm Alex has downgraded to a typical low-pressure system but still packs a punch. It will edge near the UK’s northwest coast on Friday and Saturday, bringing blustery conditions, especially to western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly warns: “We expect winds around 45mph across the north, with gusts possibly topping 55mph in exposed coastal and island spots.” Showers will lash the northwest too, some with thunder. The worst is forecast to ease by Sunday.
South Gets a Break with Sunny Spells and Warm Temps
Further south, the weather looks a lot kinder. The weekend should stay mostly dry with sunny intervals and lighter winds. Temperatures in the southeast could hit a pleasant 24°C.
Watch Out for High Pollen Levels in the South
The Met Office also flags high to very high pollen counts in southern England this weekend. Perfect weather for sun lovers, but not so much for hay fever sufferers. Stay prepared and keep tissues close!
