Snow Alert Hits South East & South West Tonight!

The South East and South West of England face a snowy shock tonight from midnight until 3am tomorrow. Drivers beware — expect disruption and plan your routes carefully.

Snow Set to Spread, Hills to See Heaviest Falls

An organised band of snow will push north into the South West and South East. While coastal areas might dodge the worst, many places can expect 1-2cm of snow, with up to 5cm on hills like Haldon Hill.

The snowfall should ease by morning but brace for a bigger second wave rolling in through the afternoon and evening, especially east of the M5.

Traffic Chaos & Icy Roads Expected

  • Snow likely to fade in Devon, but elsewhere it’ll stick around and get heavier, causing slow traffic and tricky conditions on steep inclines such as the A417.
  • Hills in North Wessex Downs, Surrey hills, and North Downs could see 8-10cm, leading to icy roads and pavements.
  • Expect lingering snow and icy patches after midnight, making morning journeys hazardous.

What Could Go Wrong?

  • Travel delays, stranded vehicles, plus possible flight and train cancellations.
  • Rural areas might become isolated temporarily.
  • Power cuts and mobile phone outages are possible.
  • Risk of slips and injuries on icy surfaces.
  • Untreated pavements and cycle paths could become impassable.
