The UK is bracing for a cold snap as chilly air from northern Scandinavia sweeps in. Daytime highs will barely hit single digits, while nights will plunge below freezing across much of the country.
Wintry Showers Hit Northern UK
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Neil Armstrong warns: “Forecast confidence is rising, and the chance of snow in southern regions is dropping. But sleety showers could still hit higher ground areas like Dartmoor and Exmoor.”
“Northern and northeastern regions remain at risk of snow and sleet under the moist north/northeasterly airflow. Yellow snow and ice warnings are in place.”
Cold Weather Set to Continue Next Week
The chill looks set to stick around through next week, with many areas enjoying dry, sunny spells. Eastern coastal spots should watch out for possible wintry showers.
Health Alerts Issued for Northern England
The UK Health Security Agency has issued yellow and amber cold-health alerts across northern England, lasting until 5 December. Residents are urged to take care during the frosty conditions.
Early Snow Won’t Stick Around
Snowfall in late autumn or early winter usually melts quickly. Ground temperatures are still relatively warm compared to the deep freeze of late winter, preventing lasting snow cover.
