M27 Chaos: Three Lanes Shut After Dramatic Car Crash Near Portsmouth
Three lanes on the M27 eastbound remain completely blocked tonight following a nasty smash. The closure stretches between junctions 11 and 12, forcing a major motorway snarl-up for hours.
Major Crash Causes Motorway Mayhem
Police and Highways England slammed the brakes on the M27 after a blue Hyundai Coupe flipped multiple times near Down End Road just after 9pm on Friday. The vehicle overturned in a terrifying roll, sparking a huge emergency response.
Emergency Services Rush In
Fire crews from Fareham Station raced to the scene shortly before junction 12. A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said:
“We were called to make the scene safe and had to close the two inside lanes. The crash happened where the motorway narrows from four lanes to three.”
The driver was rushed to hospital by ambulance. At this stage, their injuries are unknown.
Long Delays Expected Through The Night
A Highways England spokesperson warned: “The lanes are unlikely to reopen before 4am.” Drivers are urged to expect delays and seek alternative routes.
