Good news for Kent drivers as Operation Brock scales back! Overnight, the controversial Brock Zero phase, which shut down the M20 coastbound between Junctions 8 and 11, has been lifted. The motorway is now open in both directions, easing traffic for locals and tourists ahead of the busy Easter Bank Holiday.

What’s Changed?

Brock Zero involved closing the M20 coastbound to regulate lorries heading to Dover and Eurotunnel, forcing non-freight traffic onto longer A20 diversion routes. Now, the Brock contraflow system is back in place and the motorway runs as normal.

  • Motorway open both ways between Junctions 8 (Maidstone) and 11 (Westenhanger)
  • No more A20 diversions for non-freight traffic to ferries, Le Shuttle, and Kent attractions
  • Smoother journeys for coastbound travellers during the Easter bank holiday

Why the Change?

National Highways say the decision to stand down Brock Zero comes as the disruption threat at Dover eases. Reduced ferry capacity remains, but enforcement is still in place to keep EU-bound lorries on track and out of Dover town.

Nicky Potts, Head of Operational Integration at National Highways, said:

“Operation Brock gives Kent a flexible way to manage traffic when there are Cross-Channel disruptions. Scaling it back now is a sensible move that opens the motorway ahead of the weekend. Thanks to Kent drivers and residents for their patience.”
