Tribute to Dorset Police Constable Martin Vaughan

Tragic news as Dorset Police Constable Martin Vaughan, 51, has died suddenly at his home in Poole. The veteran officer passed away on the evening of Sunday 23 May 2021 due to a sudden medical episode.

29 Years Serving Dorset

Deputy Chief Constable Scott Chilton expressed deep sorrow over the loss. “We are all devastated to have lost a member of our police family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and close colleagues,” he said.

Martin joined Dorset Police in June 1992 and spent nearly three decades serving his community. He was due to retire next June after completing 30 years’ service.

From Patrol to Roads Policing Dream

Martin started out working in Winton and Wimborne, training new officers and first aid. He spent time on uniform patrol between 1996 and 2001, later taking roles as a search trainer and in Bournemouth custody.

In 2004, Martin landed his dream job with the Roads Policing Team in Poole, working as a dedicated traffic officer for 17 years.

A Tenacious Officer Remembered

Inspector Joe Pardey from the traffic unit praised Martin’s dedication. “He was proud of Dorset Police — he considered it his family and his world,” Pardey said.

“Martin always wanted to finish his career driving a traffic car and wearing a white hat. He made Dorset’s roads safer through his hardworking service and took part in many high-profile investigations. He was a tenacious, thorough, and keen investigator.”

Martin Vaughan will be sorely missed by colleagues and the community he served so faithfully.
