Isle of Wight Floating Bridge Halted After Collision with East Cowes Wall

Bridge Pulled from Service This Morning

The Isle of Wight Floating Bridge has been taken out of action today after it reportedly crashed into the wall on the East Cowes side of the River Medina. Both passengers and vehicles were turned away as staff confirmed the bridge is no longer in service.

No Injuries Reported in Collision

Fortunately, no one is believed to have been hurt in the incident. The cause appears to be a tricky combo of wind and tide that made it impossible for the bridge to berth safely.

Council Statement and Next Steps

An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said: “The Floating Bridge has been temporarily suspended, as it cannot berth at East Cowes without colliding with the GKN wall, due to a combination of wind and tide. A passenger launch is likely to be in place until noon.”

At this stage, it remains unclear if the bridge sustained any damage. Commuters and drivers are advised to check for updates before planning their journeys.
