Two Serious after Plane Crashes into Power cables on the Isle of Wight
A man and a woman have escaped with their lives after their plane crashed into remote marshland in Bembridge, striking a power cable in the process. 2 air ambulances have airlifted the casualties to mainland hospitals following a multi agency operation involving the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, Hampshire Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service. _psEmbed(“https:///uknip.photoshelter.com”); Two people have been injured after a light aircraft crashed on the Isle of Wight this afternoon The aircraft came down west of Bembridge airport shortly before 4pm Hampshire Police said the pilot and passenger have sustained serious injuries and both have been airlifted to Southampton Hospital by Air ambulance. The Two air ambulance were called to the scene from Hampshire and the Isle fo wight and Thames Valley each took one patient. Road closures are in place on Sandown Road and Long Land Shute. The Air Accident Investigation Bureau has been notified. Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said crews had to walk some distance to get to the crash site and used a Landrover to bring cutting equipment. It is understood that the plane flew into power lines before crash landing in marsh land. It is understood that a Chinook may have to be called in to recover the wreckage.
