Two Taxis Banned From Roads in Crumlin After Safety Shocker
Dangerous Defects Found During Joint Checkpoint
Two taxis were slammed off the streets of Crumlin Village last night after Gardaí and Transport for Ireland (TFI) caught them operating in a seriously dangerous condition. The joint operation, targeting taxi safety standards, exposed shocking defects that put passengers and other road users at risk.
Both vehicles were found with dangerously defective tyres. This made them unroadworthy and a serious hazard on the roads.
Driver Caught Watching Videos Behind The Wheel
Adding to the dangers, one driver was nabbed watching videos on their phone while driving—a reckless move that could have sparked a serious crash.
“During our checkpoint with TFI in Crumlin Village, two taxis were detected for failing to meet vehicle standards. Both had dangerously defective tyres and one driver was found to be watching videos while driving. These actions compromise road safety and will not be tolerated,” confirmed a Garda spokesperson.
Enforcement Crackdown Underway
Both drivers faced immediate prohibition notices, removing their taxis from the roads. Further investigations are ongoing as authorities crack down on unsafe taxis.
Warning to All Taxi Drivers
Officials are urging all taxi operators to keep their vehicles roadworthy and drivers fully alert behind the wheel. The message is clear: safety standards must be met, or face the consequences.
