UK Steps Up Flood Relief in Paraguay’s North
The UK government has swung into action, backing emergency flood relief efforts in northern Paraguay with vital funds from the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF).
Flash Floods Ravage Paraguay
In February 2023, severe flash floods battered northern Paraguay, hitting departments like Alto Paraguay, Concepción, and Amambay hard. The disaster has impacted around 30,000 families across the region.
Red Cross Leads Emergency Operation
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) quickly coordinated a rescue mission. On the ground, the Paraguayan Red Cross tackled the crisis in Concepción, focusing on communities such as Fátima, San Miguel (Calaverita), and San José Olero.
Essential Aid for Thousands
The operation is set to deliver shelter, clean drinking water, food, and livelihood support to roughly 3,400 people — about 690 families — in Concepción.
UK: A Key Player in Disaster Relief
The UK is a proud donor to the DREF, helping ensure a swift and effective reaction to disasters like these across the globe.
