Dartford Road Crime Crackdown Nets Dozens of Offenders
Volunteer officers teamed up with Kent Police and the Met over the weekend of August 7-8, 2021, to tackle uninsured, untaxed, and unsafe vehicles in Dartford. Their mission? Clear dodgy cars off the roads and stop any planned criminal activity in its tracks.
Heavy Hitters Join Forces for Weekend Raids
The operation saw Kent’s Road Safety Unit, North Division Specials, and colleagues from the Metropolitan Police joining volunteer officers. Together, they hit the streets hard with stop checks aimed at cracking down on dangerous drivers.
Traffic Offences and Arrests Soar
- 15 traffic offence reports filed
- 7 fines slapped on motorists
- 2 vehicles seized for being uninsured or untaxed
- 8 vehicles issued prohibition notices for serious defects
A 46-year-old woman from Chatham was arrested for suspected drug-driving after her erratic driving caught the eye of officers. She has since been released pending further enquiries.
Specials Make a Big Impact
“This was a highly successful operation that sadly shows too many drivers still break the rules and endanger lives,” said Special Sergeant David Craggs, operation leader. “Driving under the influence or behind the wheel of an unsafe vehicle makes crashes far more deadly. We’ll keep up these operations to protect law-abiding drivers and make our roads safer.”
Special Constables are unpaid volunteers with full police powers. They dedicate at least 16 hours a month to policing their communities, often alongside full-time jobs. The Special Roads Policing Unit backs regular officers by attending crashes, hunting stolen vehicles, and cracking down on reckless driving.
