Burst Water Main Sparks Chaos in Ryde – Hundreds Left Dry
A major water main burst on Ashey Road in Ryde this morning (Wednesday), cutting off water to hundreds of homes and businesses.
The 10-inch water main exploded on Bettsworth Road, sending water gushing up through the road surface. Around 50 properties faced no water or were left with barely a trickle.
Medical Services Disrupted
The outage hit the Ryde Clinic hard, forcing staff to halt blood tests and other vital medical procedures due to the lack of running water.
Bottled Water Supplied as Repairs Underway
Southern Water rushed bottled water to affected homes while engineers scrambled to fix the damage. A spokesperson said:
“We’re working to fix this burst on a 10” main in Ashey Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight. Water engineers have rezoned the supply to affected properties who should be back in water shortly. Thanks to our customers for their patience and understanding whilst we work to fix the issue.”
Water Engineers Act Fast to Restore Supply
Emergency teams swiftly adjusted the water supply to reconnect customers. Residents are urged to bear with Southern Water as repairs continue.
