Storm Alert! Torrential Rain and Gales Head for Hampshire and Sussex

Met Office Issues Three-Day Weather Warning

A fierce band of gales and heavy rain is barreling towards Hampshire, West Sussex, and parts of Kent – and it’s arriving faster than expected. The Met Office has just updated its weather warning, which now runs for three days from Wednesday afternoon through to early Friday.

Flash Flood Risk as Downpours Pound the South

Forecasters warn of multiple downpours that could spark flash flooding. Between Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning, 30 to 50mm of rain is expected widely, with up to 90mm dumping on some south-facing hills in southwest England and South Wales.

“Some drier spells may break up the rain, but the persistent downpours on already saturated ground will likely cause flooding in places,” said the Met Office.

“While rainfall amounts aren’t huge—10-15mm, possibly up to 30mm in spots—the soaked soil means flooding is more probable.”

Be Prepared for More Heavy Rain

Heavy showers could continue through Thursday, so locals should brace for wet weather and possible travel disruptions. If you’re in the affected areas, stay tuned for updates and keep flood safety in mind.
