At least 13 people have died and more than 20 remain missing after catastrophic flash flooding swept through central Texas. The disaster struck Kerr County following an intense overnight storm that dumped up to 10 inches (25cm) of rain in mere hours.

The Guadalupe River burst its banks, flooding vast areas and devastating local communities, including a girls’ camp caught in the deluge. Emergency crews are racing against time, combing the region by land, air, and boat to find survivors and recover the missing.

“Dozens of Rescues” Confirmed

Judge Rob Kelly, Kerr County’s top official, confirmed the grim toll and ongoing rescue efforts. He revealed: “Dozens of rescues materialised overnight as waters rose without warning.” Authorities have deployed over 123 rescue personnel across the flooded zone.

Emergency Services Battle Treacherous Conditions

Rescue teams are still searching under dangerous conditions. Many roads remain flooded and impassable. Officials are urging residents to avoid low-lying areas and stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
