Cops Left Baffled by Hampshire Pong
Police have been left baffled by a pong that hung over the South Coast yesterday, after receiving dozens of reports about an unusual smell in Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, Netley, Southampton and the Isle-of-Wight. A police spokesman said, “We continue to work alongside our colleagues from our partner agencies to ascertain the cause of the smell. “The smell seems to have disappeared from most areas and we have not received any further reports.” People took to social media to suggest the smell came from either a tanker in the Solent, a petrochemical plant in Le Harve or a gas leak near Crofton School in Stubbington. About two thousand people also hilariously apologised for the curry they’d eaten earlier that day. If you do notice the smell has returned, please report it to Southern Gas on 0800 111 999.
