Greenpeace Storms Rishi Sunak’s Roof in Daring Anti-Oil Protest

Four Greenpeace activists have been hauled off by police after scaling the roof of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s countryside manor in Kirby Sigston, North Yorkshire. The protesters, targeting Sunak’s North Sea oil drilling plans, draped a huge 200sq/m black banner over the roof, branding the PM’s energy strategy “oil profits or our future?”

Dramatic Roof Stunt While Sunak is Soaking Up California Sun

The daring activists used ladders and climbing ropes to reach the roof, spending over three hours there before police arrived and escorted them down. Sunak himself was miles away, holidaying in California.

Meanwhile, two more Greenpeace campaigners unfurled a massive banner outside the property, directly challenging the PM’s recent move to grant 100 new oil and gas licences in the North Sea – a major boost for fossil fuel extraction off Scotland’s coast.

Number 10 Stands Firm as Climate Anger Rises

Number 10 quickly defended its energy policy, stressing the need to protect the UK’s energy security and reduce dependency on “unreliable” foreign sources, a thinly veiled reference to Vladimir Putin’s regime. The government also touted its investments in renewable energy and the thousands of British jobs tied to the sector.

Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, holding the reins while Sunak’s overseas, echoed this stance, insisting that North Sea drilling remains a vital part of Britain’s energy mix.

Activists Demand Climate Action from the Top

From his rooftop perch, activist Alex Wilson recorded a video denouncing the government’s drilling agenda amid the ongoing climate crisis. Greenpeace’s Philip Evans revealed the group waited until Sunak’s family were away and even knocked on the door to announce their peaceful protest – but got no reply.

The stunt underscores mounting frustration with the government’s approach to climate change, spotlighting calls for a swift move away from fossil fuels and a genuine push towards sustainable energy.
