Thailand and Singapore Added to England’s Travel Corridors
From 4am on Saturday 19 September 2020, travellers arriving in England from Thailand and Singapore won’t have to self-isolate for 14 days. Both countries have been deemed low-risk by the Joint Biosecurity Centre, earning them a place on the travel corridor list.
Slovenia and Guadeloupe Booted from Safe List
But it’s bad news for Slovenia and Guadeloupe. They’ve been kicked off the travel exemption list from the same date, meaning travellers arriving from these places must quarantine for two weeks.
Data reveals a sharp surge in COVID-19 cases. Slovenia’s weekly cases per 100,000 doubled from 14.4 on 9 September to 29.1 on 16 September — a 102% jump. Guadeloupe’s situation is even worse, with a staggering 558% increase in cases over four weeks leading up to 15 September.
Government Urges Caution and Compliance
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) now advises against all but essential travel to Slovenia and Guadeloupe. Meanwhile, Singapore and Thailand remain exempt from the FCDO’s broad travel warnings.
Ministers have vowed to act fast if virus risks rise, removing countries from corridors swiftly to protect public health. Travellers from Slovenia and Guadeloupe are urged to follow local rules and check updated travel advice before returning to the UK.
Travellers Must Fill Passenger Locator Form
All arrivals, including from exempt countries, must complete a passenger locator form. Border Force will perform spot checks, and refusal to provide contact details can land travellers with fines starting at £100.
The government stresses the ever-changing nature of the pandemic means travellers should always check the latest FCDO guidance before flying.
