Deadly Blast Rocks Afghan Hotel Near Pakistan Border
Explosion Kills Three, Injures Seven in Khost
A devastating explosion tore through a hotel in Khost, eastern Afghanistan, on Monday, killing at least three people and injuring seven more, local police confirmed. The blast sent shockwaves through the city, highlighting the region’s spiralling violence.
Popular Hotel Draws Afghan and Pakistani Visitors
The targeted hotel attracted both locals and visitors from Pakistan’s North Waziristan province, which shares a volatile border with Afghanistan. Police spokesperson Mustaghfir Gurbaz said investigations are ongoing to determine who was behind the deadly blast.
No Claim Yet but ISIS Link Suspected
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government often blames the Islamic State’s local faction, the Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP), for similar bombings. The region’s unstable security situation makes it tough to pinpoint culprits.
Cross-Border Militants and Taliban Ties
Details about Pakistani refugees at the hotel remain unclear. Pakistani authorities warn that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group, has taken refuge in Afghan areas like Khost. While TTP operates independently, it has strong links with the Afghan Taliban, who seized power after NATO’s 2021 withdrawal.
Rising Civilian Toll Since Taliban Takeover
Since the Taliban’s return, violence has surged, devastating civilians. The UN reports over 1,000 Afghan civilians have been killed by bombings and attacks since August 2021.
This latest blast underscores the fragile peace and ongoing threats hanging over Afghanistan’s border regions.
