Eurovision Shock: Dutch Star Joost Klein Probed Over Threat Scandal
Dutch Eurovision hopeful Joost Klein has been grilled by Swedish police over claims he made “unlawful threats” to a staff member during the contest in Malmo. The 26-year-old reportedly missed his penultimate dress rehearsal on Friday and was barred from later dry-runs on Saturday.
Police Confirm Investigation Into Alleged Threats
Swedish cops say a man was questioned after alleged threats were made against a female TV worker at the Eurovision event on Thursday evening. Authorities confirmed: “The investigation has been completed. The case follows the normal legal process and will be sent to the prosecutor within weeks.”
Eurovision Final Vote Put On Hold Amid Drama
The Euro contest’s organisers, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), have postponed the final voting while the Dutch entry’s fate is decided. Klein was set to perform fifth with his track “Europapa” but no-showed on stage, sparking confusion and speculation among fans.
Political Protests and On-Stage Antics Add Fuel to the Fire
- The incident has intensified protests against Israel’s participation, with thousands rallying in Malmo. Greta Thunberg joined calls to exclude Israel, accusing them of trying to “artwash” the ongoing Gaza conflict.
- Klein also made headlines for his bizarre behaviour during a Thursday press conference, covering his head and interrupting Israeli contestant Eden Golan’s interview.
The EBU and Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS are currently assessing the situation. With the investigation ongoing, the future of the Netherlands at Eurovision is hanging by a thread, casting a dark cloud over the final showdown.
