Caroline Joins COVID Vaccine Drive to Help Gosport Stay Safe
Local MP Caroline rolled up her sleeves—not for a jab, but to support health and social care workers vaccinating people against coronavirus.
Massive Vaccine Numbers in Fareham and Gosport
Across the UK, 18.6 million have had their COVID vaccine. Here in Fareham and Gosport, over 62,000 doses have been given. More than 95% of residents aged 65 and over have received at least one jab.
The top four priority groups—who sadly account for 88% of COVID deaths—have all been offered their vaccine.
Caroline Praises Medical Teams and Urges Locals to Volunteer
“It was such an honour to volunteer alongside wonderful medical professionals from across our area at the COVID-19 vaccine clinic today. While luckily for local residents I was not handed any needles, I was delighted to do my part in assisting in their vital work to protect Gosport Constituents.”
Whether medical pros or not, residents can sign up as steward volunteers or vaccinators to help local practices. Gosport Borough Council is urgently seeking volunteers for the COVID-19 Testing Centre at Thorngate Halls.
Next COVID Vaccine Phase to Target 40-49 Year Olds
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) announced the next rollout phase will be age-based. After vaccinating the top six priority groups—including those over 50 and clinically vulnerable—phase two kicks off with 40-49 year olds.
The JCVI said focusing on age speeds up the rollout. Prioritising by job would slow progress, and data shows older people face the highest risks, even in high-exposure roles.
