Opposition Demands Urgent Probe into National Security Scandal
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper slammed the attack as a “hugely serious national security issue” that must be investigated “at the highest level.” She called for answers on how the hack was kept secret and warned of major risks to UK safety.
Liberal Democrat foreign affairs chief Layla Moran said: “Was Liz Truss’s phone hacked by Russia? Was there a news blackout and if so, why? It would be unforgivable if this was hidden to protect Truss’s leadership hopes.”
She added: “We cannot let Conservative political games come before the country’s security.”
Government Claims Strong Cyber Defences Despite Scandal
A government spokesperson insisted ministers get regular security briefings and advice on safeguarding data. “Robust systems” are in place to counter cyber threats, they said, but refused to comment on individual cases.
