Rishi Sunak hails Harry Kane as England’s top goal scorer after Euro 2024 qualifier strike
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has personally congratulated Harry Kane for smashing England’s goal-scoring record. Kane netted his 54th international goal during the Euro 2024 opener against Italy this week.
PM’s praise for England’s new football legend
In a video call this morning, Sunak showered the England and Tottenham Hotspur striker with praise. “Massive congratulations… for what you have achieved personally, that you are the all-time great,” he said.
He added: “You’re a phenomenal captain, a phenomenal role model, and the entire country is very proud of you and lucky to have you.”
Kane savours special milestone
Reflecting on his record-breaking feat, Kane admitted: “It has not truly sunk in yet… but it was a special night.”
He also expressed his passion for the national team: “I love playing for my country so much, I want to represent it in the best way.”
