Memorial to Israeli Attack Victims Vandalised on Jewish New Year

A memorial in Palmeira Square, Hove, honouring victims of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack in Israel, was smashed to bits on October 3, 2024. The shocking vandalism happened at 6:15pm, right during the Jewish New Year.

Man Caught on Camera Destroying Memorial

Footage shows a man viciously attacking the memorial. Luckily, a passerby intervened and stopped more damage. The heartbreaking scene has sparked outrage locally.

Police Launch Investigation

Sussex Police confirmed an investigation is underway. Detective Superintendent Ben Newman said:

“We are aware of a video circulating online relating to a man damaging the Jewish memorial in Palmeira Square, Hove. Following a report to police on October 4, we were saddened to learn of this act of vandalism against a memorial that holds great significance for many people. We understand the distress this may cause and are treating this incident seriously.”

“An investigation is underway, and if you have information to help us identify the person responsible, we ask you to contact police.”
