Rural and Seaside Show returns with new attractions
Portsmouth’s Rural and Seaside Show promises to be bigger than ever when it returns to Castle Field over the bank holiday weekend, Saturday 30 April to Monday 2 May. Now in its fourth year, the free family friendly event offers lots of fun by the sea with an exciting programme for everyone to enjoy. Various activities will be taking place during the weekend from 10am – 5pm each day with show favourites including heavy horse displays, donkey rides, sheep grazing, sheep dog demonstrations, classic cars, Punch and Judy shows, welly throwing, ferret racing and archery taster sessions. New to the show this year will be Canine Corner, with dog shows over the three days, dog agility and stalls selling doggie treats. There will also be demonstrations of flyball, where dogs race to retrieve balls, as well as the opportunity for dog owners to enter their own dogs. Anyone wishing to enter their dog into the show can register on the day. Other new additions include chainsaw carving, with speed carving demonstrations, and a treasure hunt. Lots of tasty food will be on offer from refreshment stalls and there will also be market stalls and children’s rides. Heather Todd, assistant events manager for Portsmouth City Council said: “The Rural and Seaside show is a fantastic free event, which celebrates the city’s traditional seaside roots. We’ve had a great response since we started running this show and I am delighted that we have so many new activities this year.
