A pensioner caused mayhem on Burnt House Lane, Stubbington, this morning when he lost control and careered onto a traffic safety island. The shocking incident happened just after 11am and is thought to have been triggered by a medical episode.

Traffic ground to a halt as authorities closed the road and diverted vehicles. A fire crew from Fareham secured the car and cleared the scene before handing over to Boardhunt recovery, who removed the damaged vehicle. Luckily, the elderly driver escaped serious injury despite dents to the car and the island.

The chaos had a knock-on effect nearby, with a wedding at a local church held up because the bride’s car got stuck in the gridlock. Commuters faced long delays on surrounding routes, including New Gate Lane.
