Homophobic Attack leaves Woman with Fractured Eye Socket in Southsea

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and woman were assaulted in Southsea as the list of serious crime grows from the weekend. The unprovoked attack took place in St Pauls Road, by the Hampshire Boulevard venue, between 2.45am and 3.15am on Saturday, October 15. The victims, a 22-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were approached by three white men, described as being in their early 20s. The men threw food at the victims before shouting homophobic abuse and assaulting them. The woman suffered a fracture around her left eye socket. The man received a cut lip. Detective Constable Sharon Lewry, of Fratton CID, said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack and it is being treated as a homophobic incident. “While this was an isolated incident, we will not tolerate assaults of this kind. If anyone saw what happened they should call 101 as soon as possible.”
