Southampton Itchen Bridge Closed after Concern for Woman welfare

Itchen bridge has been closed this evening after a person has been seen threatening to jump off the bridge. Police have sealed off the bridge in both directions just before 9pm after they were called to reports of a woman threatened to leap from the structure this evening. The person can be seen over the para pit has been described by Police as high risk. A number of officers are talking to the woman. The bridge was closed at just before 9pm.Two lifeboat and a coastguard rescue team from Hillhead have also been called to the scene. An ambulance can also be seen park in the middle of the bridge. A police spokeswoman said: “We are dealing with an incident on the Itchen Bridge we have sent a number of specialist officers to the scene.” Just after 22:20pm this evening emergency services successfully talked the woman down to safety and is now being treated by South Central Ambulance Service.
