Firefighters battle blazing 80 tonnes of hay in Hampshire and Surrey

Fire crews from across Hampshire and Surrey are locked in a fierce battle to bring an 80-tonne hay blaze under control. The alarm was raised just after 2pm on Sunday, and teams have been battling the inferno for nearly five hours.

Firefighters battle relentless blaze

Crews from Bordon, Fleet, and Farnham were promptly on the scene, joined by specialist vehicles to tackle the spreading fire. Hampshire’s first response team, along with two water carriers, have been shuttling water back and forth to keep the blaze in check.

Heavy machinery breaks up burning hay

A prime mover carrying a Manitou telehandler is breaking up the burning hay and moving it around. This allows crews to spray and douse hotspots more effectively.
