A shock snatch attempt was reported outside ALDI on Gamble Road, Portsmouth, at around 12.25pm on Monday 17th July 2017. A woman dressed in a burka allegedly tried to grab a child, sparking fears among local parents.

Burka-Clad Woman Targets Toddler

The concerned mother was loading a trolley with her one-year-old daughter when the stranger approached. The woman, described as Pakistani, in her 40s, with a round build, wearing a dark blue sari and nose ring, reportedly tried to entice the child away.

Luckily, the mum challenged her, causing the woman to back off and flee.

Getaway Driver on Standby

Eyewitnesses say a man waited nearby in a silver car, allegedly ready as the getaway driver. The car sped off after the woman was confronted.

Police Investigate Alarming Incident

Local officers arrived quickly and spoke with the mother. Enquiries are ongoing to piece together the full story.

Laura, an ALDI worker, witnessed the drama and comforted the distressed mum at the scene.
