Christopher Buttling Jailed for 8 years after wounding Two Police officers

Christopher Richard Buttling, 32, of Merlin Road, Farnborough has today been jailed. Buttling, also known as Christopher Benjamin, pleaded guilty to two counts of wounding with intent and one count of producing cannabis. He was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison with an extended three years on licence. It follows an assault on two Hampshire Constabulary officers in Merlin Road, Farnborough on July 12 2017. The two officers were attending the address to make an arrest in connection with a domestic assault. The two officers suffered injuries, one sustained a laceration to his shoulder and the other a laceration to his hand. Both officers are now fully recovered. Response and Patrol Chief Inspector Georgina White said: “Policing does come with an element of risk, the nature of the role is that we move towards danger rather than away from it. However, a direct assault on any officer is unacceptable. “Our work to ensure we provide the best welfare and support to our highly trained officers and staff continues. “I’m pleased to say both officers have made a full recovery and have returned to duty with the support of colleagues.” John Apter, chair of the Hampshire Police Federation said: “This was a vicious and brutal attack which resulted in two police officers being seriously injured. It was only through the actions of other officers and the use of Taser that no officer was killed. Police officers do a difficult and dangerous job, but being assaulted must never be accepted as just part of the job. “Although the officers physical injuries will heal the effect of this attack will remain with them for many years to come.”
