One Person Hurt 300 passengers evacuated Following Train Derailment at Wimbledon
Monday 6th November 2017 Wimbledon,West London Power failures, signalling problems and a partially derailed train close to Wimbledon Station caused a morning of travel woe for rush hour commuters on Monday, with delays on several major London transport routes. South Western Railways halted services between between London Waterloo and Wimbledon after the last compartment of an eight-carriage train came off tracks at Alexandra Road, Wimbledon just before 6.00am on Monday.

London Fire crews evacuated 300 passengers from the train after it derailed as around nine fire engines were called to the emergency at 05.54am. While one person suffered minor injuries, no one was taken to hospital, London Ambulance Service confirmed. British Transport Police (BTP) warned of “significant disruption”, tweeting: “Officers are attending a low-speed partial derailment of a train in the Wimbledon area. One person sustained minor injuries.” Network Rail expects disruption to last until the end of the day. District Line services between Parsons Green and Wimbledon are also affected by the derailment. Rail services between Wimbledon and Earls Court are expected to be delayed and cancelled until the end of the day, a statement posted on Network Rail’s website said.
