Woman caged for 23 years after Portsmouth Murder
Two women have been jailed today following the murder of 36-year-old Nadine Burden in Toronto Road, Norh End, on 28th January of last year. Victoria Margaret Arthur, 44, of Milton Road, Portsmouth (pictured just hours after the murder), was found guilty on 29th January 2018 at Salisbury Court and was today sentenced to 23 years in prison. Officers were called to an address on Toronto Road at 11.58pm on Saturday 28th January, after an injured woman was discovered in the address. Arthur, of Hope House, Milton Road, stabbed the victim on her own doorstep seven times – including a fatal wound to her jugular vein – over a £100 Heroin debt. Nadine Burden sadly died at the scene. A second woman, Julie Palmer, 44, of Please Westminster Place in Portsmouth, was jailed today for two years for assisting an offender. In a previous hearing on 7th August 2017, Palmer admitted washing Arthur’s clothing after she returned from the murder scene. Detective Constable Steve Norridge said, “I would like to thank Nadine’s family for their support and understanding throughout the investigation and I would especially like to thank her dad, who has acted with immense dignity throughout the court cases. “I hope today’s sentence goes some way to giving the family closure and that they can move on from this terrible event. “I am grateful to the significant witnesses who attended court on more than one occasion, in order to present crucial evidence. “I would also like to take this opportunity to recognise the efforts of the paramedics and officers who responded to the incident, as well as those involved in the murder enquiry that followed.” A
