Two women locked up over brutal heroin-related murder in Portsmouth
Two women have been sentenced following the savage killing of 36-year-old Nadine Burden in North End, Portsmouth. Victoria Margaret Arthur, 44, was handed a hefty 23-year prison term today for stabbing Nadine seven times outside her home on Toronto Road last January.
Fatal stabbing over £100 heroin debt
The attack happened just before midnight on 28th January last year. Police were called to the scene after an injured Nadine was found at her doorstep. Arthur plunged a knife into Nadine repeatedly, delivering a fatal blow to the jugular vein. Nadine died instantly.
Accomplice jailed for helping clean up crime
Julie Palmer, also 44 and from Portsmouth, got a two-year sentence for assisting Arthur. She admitted washing the murderer’s clothes after the deadly attack during an earlier hearing in August 2017.
Police pay tribute to victim’s family and witnesses
Detective Constable Steve Norridge said, “I would like to thank Nadine’s family for their support and understanding throughout the investigation, especially her father, who has shown immense dignity throughout this case.”
“I hope today’s sentence helps the family find closure and move on from this terrible event. I also thank the witnesses who bravely gave evidence and the emergency services involved in both the response and enquiry.”
