Drama on Ryde Pier as Police Talk Man Down from Ledge
Hampshire Police scrambled to Ryde Pier tonight (Tuesday) to deal with a tense incident involving a distressed individual. A strong police presence attended the historic pier as they worked to calm the man.
Coastguard and Lifeboat Join Rescue Effort
Underneath the pier, the coastguard search and rescue team carried out a thorough search. Teams from Bembridge Coastguard and Ryde Inshore Lifeboat also raced to assist Isle of Wight police officers on the scene.
Man Safe and Sound After Rescue
UPDATE 23:10: Police successfully talked the man down from the ledge, with no injuries reported. He was taken to a “place of safety” to receive help from partner agencies on the island.
