Major Delays Hit Newport as Isle of Wight Festival One-Way System Kicks In

Commuters face massive hold-ups on all routes into Newport this evening. As rush hour hits the Island, drivers are battling the new one-way system brought in for the Isle of Wight Festival, which started on Wednesday lunchtime.

Rat Runs Blocked by Concrete Barriers

Side roads often used as shortcuts are slammed shut with concrete blocks. Only residents with permits can enter through the gated roads, forcing most drivers onto the main routes.

Traffic Snarls Made Worse by Faulty Lights

To keep traffic moving, cars can enter Newport via Fairlee Road but must exit through Staplers Road until Monday afternoon. However, the efforts are faltering. Coppins Bridge traffic lights are out of sync, adding to the chaos. Some drivers report crawling speeds of just 4 mph from Downend Road onto Long Lane.

Public transport isn’t spared either. Southern Vectis warns of heavy traffic causing lengthy delays to bus services.
