National Police air support called to Sandown on the Isle of Wight

A number of response officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police have been called to Sandown on the Isle of Wight this evening. The response officers are being supported by an air asset from the National Air support service. The helicopter has carried out a number searches over Chichester Road and St Johns Crescent. A number of officers have placed a containment on in St John Cresent and a person has been detained one person following a stop and search involving three others. It is understood that the helicopter was called upon as the person was stopped for a drugs search ran off through an alley and went to ground in bushes in a nearby garden. The air support had been dealing with an unrelated tasking within the Isle of Wight area and offered support with the help of Armed response Road Policing officers who detained the man. The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Dog unit also attended along with response officers from Newport. More to follow
