Pensioner arrested at Gatwick over 1985 Gerard Hoarau Murder

Officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command have arrested a second man in connection with the investigation into the murder of Gerard Hoarau in Edgware in 1985. The man who is in his 80s, was arrested at Gatwick Airport, on 09 August, arriving on an inbound flight into the UK on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He was detained under PACE and was transported to a central London Police Station where he remains in police custody at this time. This follows the arrest of a man [A] in Antrim, Northern Ireland on 2 August, also on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. The 77-year-old man was subsequently released under investigation pending further enquiries. On 29 November 1985, Mr Hoarau was shot a number of times with a Sterling sub-machine gun while he was on the doorstep of his home on Greencourt Avenue. A review of the investigation was initiated in 2016 from which fresh lines of enquiry were established, leading to these two arrests. Anyone with information in relation to the murder of Mr Hoarau should contact the investigation team at [email protected]. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
