Blaze Breaks Out on Canary Wharf Skyscraper Roof
About 60 firefighters raced to tackle a fire at the top of a 33-storey tower block in Canary Wharf early this morning. An air conditioning unit on the roof had caught fire, sending thick smoke billowing over the area.
Firefighters Respond to Dozens of Emergency Calls
London Fire Brigade’s control officers were flooded with around 20 emergency calls as the blaze lit up the skyline. Eight fire engines from stations including Millwall and Shadwell rushed to the scene.
Fire Contained—No Injuries Reported
“While the fire was very visible, it was contained to the air conditioning unit on the roof of a commercial tower block,”
said Station Manager 1 Sandy, who was at the scene. Thankfully, no people were harmed, and the fire did not spread beyond the roof area.
The brigade were called at 12.39am and had the fire under control by 1.58am, preventing any further damage to the high-rise building.
