Major sea search after person reported in the water

A huge ongoing search involving all emergency service is taking place on the South coast this evening. Search and rescue teams from the UK coastguard and Police have been scambled following the sighting of a person in the water near Worthing Pier. Emergency services were called just before 10pm on Sunday evening and a huge on going search is continuing following reports of a person in distress in the water. The police helicopter from Redhill in Surrey has also been sent to assist at the incident. A major search of the beach and surrounding areas are being carried out. The helicopter crews are also using a FLAIR heat seeking camera in an attempt to locate the person in very rough water. Lifeboat assets from Shoreham and Littlehampton have also been called in to carry out a search of the choppy water. A shoreline search is also being carried out by Officers from Sussex Police and two coastguard teams.
