Emergency crews are locked in a desperate search tonight after reports of a person seen struggling near Worthing Pier. The alarm was raised just before 10pm on Sunday, sparking a full-scale operation along the South Coast.

UK Coastguard teams and police rushed to the scene after a witness spotted someone in distress. Police scrambled a helicopter from Redhill, Surrey, to join the hunt, deploying its FLAIR heat-seeking camera to scan the choppy waters in the dark.
Lifeboats Join the Fray
Rescue lifeboats from Shoreham and Littlehampton have been dispatched, combing the tempestuous sea for any sign of the missing person. Meanwhile, officers are scouring the shoreline in a race against time to locate the individual before nightfall fully sets in.
The operation remains ongoing as crews battle the rough conditions in a bid to bring the person to safety.
