A drug dealer has been jailed after officers found him in possession of cocaine and cannabis following a routine stop. Joseph Socrates, 30, of Vaughan Road, Stratford, London, was jailed for two years and nine months at Maidstone Crown Court on 11 March 2019. His sentence was handed to him after he pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to supply cocaine and one count of possession with intent to supply cannabis. The judge heard how at around 4pm on 2 May 2018 two officers were on patrol in Greenhithe when they saw Socrates driving on the B255. They became suspicious of the vehicle and followed it before requesting it to stop near to the slip road of the London-bound A2 at Wilmington. Officers searched Socrates and the vehicle under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and officers found a large amount of cash hidden inside the fuse box compartment of the car. They also found seven small bags of cannabis hidden in the same area. Socrates was taken to a local station where he was further searched and 20 wraps of cocaine were found hidden under Socrates’ waistband of his trousers. Investigating officer Detective Constable Daniel Bister said: ‘Socrates was in Kent that day with the sole intention of dealing drugs and it was only down to the intuition of officers that he was followed and requested to stop before he was found with drugs. ‘I hope his sentencing serves as a reminder to other who may be thinking of engaging in criminal activity.’
