North West London Man Convicted in Terrorism Document Sting

A 42-year-old man from north-west London has been found guilty of terror-related charges after a Met Counter Terrorism investigation. Abdirahman Abdullahi Mohamed was convicted at the Old Bailey today, Thursday 14 March, on eight counts of possessing documents useful for terrorist purposes under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Bombshell Evidence Seized in Police Raid

Mohamed was arrested back in December 2017. Police searched his home and confiscated two laptops, a smartphone, and a memory stick. Inside, officers uncovered extremist documents linked to global terror groups including Daesh, Al Qaeda, and Al Shabaab. These materials contained chilling instructions on carrying out knife attacks, arson, and vehicle assaults.

Defence Claims ‘Just Research’ Fall Flat

Mohamed, a Somali national, told detectives he was merely trying to better understand terrorism in Somalia. But the sheer volume and severity of the content told a different story. His defence failed to convince the jury, resulting in his conviction.

Met Commander Praises Officers, Warns of Danger

“Mohamed tried to make out he merely had an interest in finding out more about the conflict in Somalia. However, it was clear that this was much more than just a passing interest. The documents he had were dangerous terrorist documents, which could be used by someone to help plan and execute an attack,” said Commander Clarke Jarrett, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.

Thanks to the sharp work of detectives, Mohamed now faces a custodial sentence. While convicted, he was released on bail and is scheduled for sentencing on 18 April.
