Tragic Gosport Blaze: Woman Dies as Fire Ravages Home
A devastating fire in Gosport has claimed the life of a 52-year-old woman. Hampshire Fire and Rescue rushed six fire engines to the scene after the blaze engulfed a property on Nyria Way, leaving it completely gutted.
Massive Fire Response Tackles Fierce Blaze
The alarm rang out just after noon on Monday, March 25. Fire crews from Gosport, Fareham, Portchester, and Cosham mobilised quickly. Thirty firefighters battled the inferno using three hose reels, two jets, and six sets of breathing apparatus.
The fire spread beyond the initial bungalow, affecting a neighbouring property as thick smoke filled the area. Emergency services urged locals nearby to keep doors and windows shut while crews worked to control the flames.
Air Ambulance Lands Amid Grim Rescue Efforts
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed close by to assist. Despite firefighters removing the woman from the scene and delivering immediate emergency care, including defibrillator use, she was tragically pronounced dead at the property.
A dog also lost its life in the blaze.
Joint Investigation Launched Into Fatal Fire
Hampshire Police and fire investigators have launched a full probe to determine the cause of the fire. Officers have informed the woman’s next of kin and are supporting the grieving family during this difficult time.
“Six fire engines attended the incident from Fareham, Gosport, Cosham, and Portchester,” said a fire service spokesman. “Despite our efforts, a 52-year-old woman sadly died at the scene.”
The fire was declared under control by 2:28 pm after an intense two and a half hour fight with the flames.
