Serving Merton police officer found guilty of rape charge

PC Lee Martin-Cramp, a serving Metropolitan police officer attached to Merton borough, was today, Thursday, 23 May found guilty of one count of rape after a trial in Antigua which started on Thursday, 16 May. He is due to be sentenced on a date to be confirmed. Now the criminal proceedings have concluded, a misconduct review will be conducted by the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS). Commander Catherine Roper, Professional Standards, said: “PC Martin-Cramp has been found guilty of an extremely serious offence by an Antiguan court. The evidence given during the trial included distressing details of how the victim trusted him because he was a police officer, and how he took advantage of that trust in the most deplorable way. The officer’s actions fell well below that of any decent person, but particularly a person whose job is to protect people and keep them safe. He will now be subject to expedited misconduct proceedings.” PC Martin-Cramp, 26, was arrested in June 2016 by the Met’s Extradition Unit after an allegation of rape was made. The allegation, reported in June 2015, related to an offence committed against a woman in Antigua in May 2015. He was extradited to Antiqua in September 2018, after an extradition request from the Antiguan authorities was granted on 28 June 2018 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. The officer is currently suspended from duties.
