South London Duo Busted for High-End Moped Robberies
Police from Operation Venice have nailed a man and woman for a spree of 10 to 15 high-value car break-ins. The pair, a man in his mid-20s and a 19-year-old woman, were nabbed on June 6 in SW6 and are now locked up in south London custody.
Stolen Moped Used in Smash-and-Grab Spree
The suspects allegedly rode a stolen moped fitted with fake plates, zooming up to luxury cars to smash windows and snatch pricey items like laptops. Their crime wave hit boroughs including Hammersmith & Fulham, Kensington & Chelsea, and Westminster between May 29 and June 5.
Quick Police Operation Leads to Arrests
Officers tracked the stolen moped to a south London spot. At 3:15pm, the suspects tried to hop on and flee but were caught red-handed. Both were arrested on suspicion of theft from vehicles.
Recovered Loot and Ongoing Hunt for Stolen Goods
A search of the man revealed a hidden Rolex watch. Further property raids linked to the pair have uncovered handbags and electronics believed to be stolen. Sergeant Callum Rodgers of Operation 1 praised the arrests, saying:
“Operation Venice is cracking down on offenders who swipe mopeds to commit crime. I’m very pleased with these arrests and the progress we’ve made. Recovering these stolen items gives us a big boost in the investigation.”
