Nearly 500 Offences Cracked Down on Over Bank Holiday Weekend
Sussex Police teamed up with the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership to clamp down on dangerous driving over the May Bank Holiday weekend. From Saturday 29 to Monday 31 May, officers targeted reckless motorists during a dedicated road safety blitz.
Crackdown on Speeding, Drink-Driving and More
The operation uncovered a whopping 485 offences, including speeding, drink and drug-driving, driving without insurance, careless driving, and even illegal number plates. This crackdown runs alongside year-round roads policing to keep Sussex roads safe.
“There’s always a small minority who think the rules don’t apply to them, risking lives,” said Chief Inspector Michael Hodder of Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit. “We won’t tolerate dangerous or antisocial driving and will take robust action.”
Free ‘ICE’ Stickers Given to Motorcyclists
More than 50 motorcyclists received free ‘ICE’ (In Case of Emergency) stickers, featuring QR codes that give first responders instant access to vital medical info. This can include allergies, medication, and next-of-kin contact details, helping save lives after crashes.
Chief Inspector Hodder warned: “Expect a stronger police presence every weekend this summer as we work hard to cut serious injuries and deaths on our roads.”
