Camberley Paedophile Sentenced to Nearly a Decade Behind Bars for Decades-Old Abuse

A Camberley man has finally been brought to justice for grooming and sexually assaulting two boys over six years in the 1990s. Peter Chiverton, 53, of Upper College Ride, was slammed with a nine-and-a-half-year prison sentence at Guildford Crown Court on 15 July.

Lifetime Sex Offender Warning

Chiverton was convicted of multiple horrendous offences, including two counts of indecent assault on boys under 16 and 14, plus six counts of indecency with boys under 14. He’s now on the sex offenders register for life.

The vile crimes came to light when the victims bravely stepped forward in 2015, revealing abuse that spanned from 1990, when they were just eight years old, through to 1996.

Victims Speak Out After Years of Silence

“Many years have now passed since I was abused by Peter, yet I am still struggling to come to terms with what happened,” said one victim. “I tried hard not to think about it in the hope that memories of it would just go away. I found it impossible to talk to others about it and so instead kept it to myself. It has only been in recent years that I have properly started to open up at all. I hope that by finally coming forward I have ensured that others may not be abused by this man in the future.”

Detective Praises Courage of Victims

Detective Constable Aodhan Lawrence led the investigation. He said: “I would like to commend the two men for having the bravery to come forward and report what happened to them. They suffered a horrendous ordeal and had their innocence stolen by a man they thought they could trust.”

“I hope this sentence provides them some closure and helps them begin to heal. I urge anyone who believes they were a victim of sexual abuse – no matter how long ago – to come forward. We take all reports seriously and will ensure thorough investigations.”
