Armed Robbery at Orpington Co-op

Staff at a Co-op store in Orpington have been subject to an armed robbery this afternoon by a man brandishing – what witnesses have described as a machete or bread knife. Met Police say they were called at 12.51pm following reports of a knife point robbery. Police say the man demanded that staff handed money over from the till. The suspect then made off on foot with a three figure sum of cash. Staff and members of the public were unharmed during the ordeal. At this stage no arrests have been made. The store which is located on Cotmandene Crescent in the St Paul’s Cray area of Orpington was temporarily closed by police following the incident.
