An arson investigation is underway after a £150,000 boat was set ablaze by two brazen youths on pushbikes just before midnight on Friday.

Four fire crews and a water rescue boat stormed to Hart Street in Maidstone as flames ripped through the 9.5-metre vessel, built by Marine Projects in 2002.

Firefighters Risk Explosion to Save Possible Occupants

Fearful the boat may have been occupied, crews quickly searched the craft despite the danger of explosion from fuel tanks. Some tackled the fire with foam and hose reels to bring the blaze under control.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesperson confirmed: “A joint investigation with Kent Police has been launched to determine the cause of the fire.”
