Woman Jailed for Grooming Girls While Pretending to Be a Teen Boy

A crafty 21-year-old woman from Enfield has been locked up for eight years after posing as a teenage boy online to groom and sexually assault girls across the UK.

Gemma Watts’ Dark Double Life

Gemma Watts, from Pembroke Avenue, Enfield, used the fake identity of “Jake Watton,” a 16-year-old boy, to win the trust of vulnerable teenage girls on social media. Platforms including Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, and Yubo were her hunting grounds.

She spun an elaborate web of lies, luring girls into what they thought were relationships. Once trust was gained, she met the victims in person and committed serious sexual offences.

Long List of Charges & Life on Register

Watts pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court to multiple offences, including:

  • Assault by penetration
  • Sexual assault on four victims
  • Meeting children following sexual grooming on three occasions

She faces a lifetime on the Sex Offenders Register and is subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life.

Police Praise Victims & Warn Offenders

“Watts targeted victims on social media, duping them into trusting someone they thought was real. Her prison sentence stops further harm but also sends a warning to others exploiting children online,” said Detective Constable Phillipa Kenwright.

PC Nicola Benson from Hampshire Constabulary added, “The level of manipulation was shocking. Children are vulnerable online, and this case shows how dangerous strangers can be.”

Thanks were given to multiple police forces involved in the investigation, including West Midlands, Devon & Cornwall, Kent, and the Met Police.

Ongoing Warning to Parents and Teens

The case highlights the real dangers of online grooming. Police urge parents and young people to be vigilant and report suspicious behaviour.

Watts continues to serve a lengthy sentence, ensuring she can no longer prey on young girls.
